    James S. Ryan founded First Ohio Planning, LLC in 1979, after earning his law degree from Capital University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia. As principal of the firm for the past 35 years, Jim has worked with hundreds of businesses of every size, as well as individuals, to provide a broad range of financial planning options.

     

    Under Jim’s leadership, First Ohio Planning has transitioned from a commission based investment firm to a fee only investment advisory firm and now manages more than $170 million in client assets. The scope of the business has expanded to include consulting, in conjunction with strategic partners, on all forms of group and individual benefit plans, qualified and non-qualified retirement plans, and financial planning. Many of Jim’s early clients are still served by the firm today.

     

    First Ohio Planning is also currently coordinating core benefit enrollment services, flexible spending account (FSA) administrative services and voluntary benefit offerings to several central Ohio large employers, as well as large national and regional employers. 

     

    Jim is recognized by the Foundation for Fiduciary Studies as an Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF®). The AIF® designation is a mark of commitment to the highest standard of investment fiduciary excellence. Also, in 1985, Jim earned his Certified Financial Planner designation (CFP®) from the College for Financial Planning; since then, Jim has served as an instructor of Certified Financial Planning courses I and II for the institution. Separately, Jim is an investment advisory representative of First Ohio Planning, an investment advisor registered with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

      

    An active community volunteer, Jim is currently a board member of the Bexley Community Foundation and past member of the Nationwide Children's Hospital Foundation Board.  Jim previousley served on the board of Nationwide Children's Hospital Guidance Center and was a Past President of the Nationwide Children's Hospital Development Board.  Jim also volunteered as a big brother with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Franklin County and as Treasurer of the Bexley Education Foundation.

    David W. Wright, an Investment Adviser Representative, joined First Ohio Planning, LLC in 1989, and since then has provided financial planning, investment advice, insurance underwriting and employee benefit plan design for a broad range of clients.  David is registered as an Investment Adviser Representative.

     

    David is a graduate of The Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.

    Throughout his career, Dave has sought to advance his knowledge of financial services so that he might better serve his clients. He earned the professional designation of Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®) from The American College in Bryn Mawr, PA in 1972. He received the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®) designation from the same institution in 1982. Dave also has earned certificates in Financial Counseling and Advanced Estate Planning. 

     

    With a goal to provide unbiased investment advice and guidance, Dave joined First Ohio Planning in 1989.  In the early 1990’s the firm began offering fee-only investment advisory services which have grown to the largest area of advice the firm delivers annually.  Dave served as First Ohio Planning’s Chief Investment Officer and currently serves on the firm’s investment committee. He developed and refined the firm’s proprietary research and portfolio modeling methodology focusing on a balance of risk and return and a myriad of additional investment parameters.

     

    Dave is a member of The Society of Financial Services Professionals. He is a past member of Columbus Rotary, where he served on the Foundation’s Investment Committee, and had served as Chairman of the award-winning Camp Enterprise. Dave recently chaired The Ohio State University Alumni Association Advisory Council, representing Student Life. A member of First Community Church, Dave has served on the Parish Life Council and Finance Council, and previously taught Sunday school for more than 10 years. More recently, Dave served as General Secretary/CEO of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity for six years, and for nine years he was a member of its Board of Trustees.

    Jane Prause serves as the Director of Financial Planning. Jane has 25 years of experience in the contract research industry, with responsibilities ranging from contract negotiation and financial analysis to project management. Jane holds a BA Degree from Capital University and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Dayton.  Jane is registered as an Investment Adviser Representative.

     

    For the past seventeen years, Jane has been a financial planner, gathering and analyzing client information to create financial plans for both individuals and business owners. Jane’s financial plans include income and tax planning, investment planning, dependent and education planning, risk management, retirement (financial independence) planning, business planning, and estate information.  Once plans are in place, Jane works with clients to implement and monitor their plans, making revisions as their life situations change.

     

    Jane began her financial planning career in 1998, and earned her Certified Financial Planner designation in 2005. Many of her early clients remain with her today. 

     

    Jane is an active community volunteer, having served 5 years as treasurer of the board of the Columbus Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc., during which time she was the first recipient of the Executive Director’s Award of Excellence. She is also a past volunteer for Citizens for Humane Action Animal Shelter and for OhioHealth Homereach Hospice. In addition, Jane is a member of Advent Lutheran Church.

    Lori M. Fellows joined First Ohio Planning in 2006, beginning her career as a college intern, while attending The Ohio State University. Upon graduating from the Fisher College of Business in 2009 with a major in accounting, Lori became a full-time associate of First Ohio Planning.

     

    Lori’s serves as Director, Retirement Plans and Portfolio Management.  Her 401(k) roles include all areas of fiduciary prudence for plan sponsors as well as providing investment research and analysis to plan sponsors. In addition to her duties for First Ohio’s retirement plan clients, Lori’s role covers investment research and portfolio management.  Her responsibilities include providing all of the primary research used in evaluating investments, monthly portfolio rebalancing and researching new technology tools. She also serves as Chair of the First Ohio’s Investment Committee.

     

    In 2011, Lori was recognized by the Foundation for Fiduciary Studies as an Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF®).  The AIF® designation is a mark of commitment to the highest standard of investment fiduciary excellence. In 2014, Lori was recognized by the College of Financial Planning as a Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor (CRPC®) and is preparing for the Certified Financial Planning designation.

    Teresa A. DeMoss joined First Ohio Planning as an Executive Assistant in May, 2017.  She provides support and administrative assistance to the firm’s retirement plan consulting practice as well as its private wealth management clients.

     

    Teresa received her B.S.B.A. in Information Systems from the Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University.   She is also a graduate of Wheeling Jesuit University with a B.S. degree in counseling.

     

    Teresa has worked in office administration for most of her career and is a Financial Paraplanner Qualified Professional™ (FPQP™) through The College of Financial Planning.   She has worked in the financial planning and investment advisory industry for the past 10 years.

     

    Teresa was born and raised in West Virginia, spent several years in Florida, and has been an Ohio resident for the last 30 years.  She resides in Hilliard.

    Lisa J. Miller has been employed at First Ohio Planning for more than 20 years as Director, Client Services and Office Management. Lisa’s primary role is coordinating all activities relative to the firms’ investment management clients as well as any insurance related transactions. In addition, Lisa oversees accounts receivable and payable, computer systems and assists with compliance.

     

    Before joining First Ohio, Lisa spent more than eight years working as a paralegal – first with Kephart & Fisher and then with Rownd & Jones. As a paralegal, Lisa was responsible for the research and drafting of legal documents in the areas of real estate, business, securities, probate, criminal, civil and domestic law.

     

    Lisa is a Financial Paraplanner Qualified Professional™ (FPQP™) through The College of Financial Planning. She also has taken law classes at Capital University and Columbus State Community College.

     

    Lisa has spent time volunteering with Delta Society in their Pet Partners program at Riverside Hospital and working with and showing horses.

     

    Currently, Lisa and her husband, Eric, are actively involved with The Liberty Train and Rescue, a volunteer organization dedicated to rescuing, transporting and re-homing animals in need.

    Marilyn Sweeney joined First Ohio Planning as part-time Office Assistant in December, 2013. She provides office support and is responsible for the day to day functions of the office. 

     

    Marilyn was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, where she attended The Ohio State University. She has previously been employed in doctors’ offices where she was responsible for collections, insurance, and front office management. 

     

    Marilyn has been actively involved in non-profit community organizations where she has served on Boards as President, Ways and Means Chair, Social Chair, Nominating Board Chair, and Secretary. She has been recognized for her fundraising skills.  She is still active in several organizations and continues to do volunteer work.
